Top Ten Video Games
Silent Hill 2 (PS2)
Playing a character that isn't fast, athletic, or good with weapons is scary in and of itself. Mix that with a the setting and atmosphere of Silent Hill and you have a great game.
Portal 2 (PS3)
During my BA, parents weekend allows for parents to visit. My mother came down and we decided to get this game and play it as opposed to bar hopping. A puzzle game shouldn't be this funny or entertaining, but it is, and that's why I like it.
Upgrading felt like a necessity in this game due to the Big Daddies. The story for me, I think, is "just okay". This game shines with great sound design, level design, shooting mechanics, boss fights, and atmosphere.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
The strangeness mixed with the countdown is why I love this game. I enjoy watching Youtubers try to synthesize what exactly is going on, but for me it's just a great experience.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4)
The game play.
Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
For me, this game represents "the whole is greater than the sum of it parts".
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
What else can be said about this masterpiece? It's a wonderful gaming experience. There is one sound effect that sticks with me to this day.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (PS1)
I had gotten the Pizza Hut demo and played it for hours. The speed and the combos that would later define THPS remind me a lot of the building mechanics in Fortnite.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
This was my first PS2 game and my first Metal Gear game. I wasn't too bothered by having to switch to Raiden as many had been. The amount of detail that went into this game is amazing.
Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
When I was a kid, this was the first game I tried to speed run. I distinctly remember trying to beat the Leon A story in under 4 hours. For Christmas, my parents had gotten me the strategy guide and I poured over each page trying to lower my time. My friends and I would draw RE levels and share them at school. The tank controls, the graphics, the voice-overs haven't aged well, but this will always be my number one.
